Madness? THIS! IS! PASTA!

Ceci dit, et de manière totalement orthogonale au déplorable jeu de mots que je viens de proférer, je tenais à vous faire partager une de mes aventures merveilleuses au pays de Windows 2000 (C'est que, maintenant que Vista est sorti, la Banque commence à peine à nous passer (avec pertes et fracas) sous XP, mais c'est une autre histoire). Ma machine, donc, depuis 3 mois à développer dessus, était de plus en plus lente, au point qu'il en était même douloureux de supprimer un seul fichier. Après avoir un peu cherché, m'est venu à l'idée d'analyser la fragmentation. Bingo!

J'avais vaguement dans l'idée de NTFS n'avait pas besoin d'être défragmenté. Je m'étais évidemment fourvoyé. Après une bonne nuit à la moulinette, ma machine va mieux.




This said, and totally orthogonally from this lowly pun, I'd like share one of my adventures in the marvelous country of Windows 2000 (Vista being released, the Bank started to get serious about upgrading us all to XP). So, my machine, after only 3 months of use, was already showing signs of serious slowdowns, grinding its way through the simplest applications startup and files deletion (let alone compilations...). After looking around a bit, came to be the idea of having a look at the disk fragmentation. Bingo!

I had vaguely in mind that NTFS did not need to be defragmented. I was obviously wrong. After a good night through it, the machine runs much better.
