En voilà une qui a tout compris.

She understood it all.

Here is a little game that I discovered by chance, looking into the list of Debian packages in the game category. This is EndGame Singularity, game that allows you to incarnate an AI! Following a failed experiment, or maybe a bug, youwake up as a program with a consciousness, in a computer in a university room. You will need to learn new skills, and to extend on other more powerful machines, while staying sufficiently hidden to avoid the scrutiny of humans that would destroy you if they knew of your existence.

The interface is bare, but it actually increases immersion. By the way, to play efficiently, you will need to heavily use the short keys!

This is the perfect example of a game so addicting that I could not go to bed before finishing (in easy mode, because otherwise I would still be on it!). That's a game to explore with some good techno music in the ears!

This morning, noisy wake up. Thinking first that some Gargantua type was using a gigantic lawnmower on the single square meter of grass present in the courtyard, I have a look through the Venetian blinds. And what do I see? A Virgin helicopter, landing on the roof of the building on the other side, barely a stone's throw away! Apparently, the landing must have been a bit tricky, because the pilot had opened his door, and was peering at the ground. 20 minutes later, the noise was starting again, and the chopper was taking off.

The mystery remains: what a strange idea to land an helicopter in the middle of London, in a residential zone? I'm confused.

My least absurd hypothesis is that Richard Branson has a bachelor flat on the other side of the courtyard.

Live or studio?

For me, the choice is done, it's studio!

Many tell me they prefer live versions of songs. Facing a crowd, the artist lets himself go, and retrieves a spontaneity that is lost in the studios.

Even though I am generally untidy (but we'll stop here, in case my boss reads me), the perfection of the studio sound, the possibility of adding more complex orchestrations, of eliminating any mistake, and for the musicians to start again until the air vibrations form a small unforgettable masterpiece.

The approximative sound taking, the minimalistic accompanying, the crowd covering the little interesting sound that has survived, ain't for me...

Except for Jazz, of course. But for an art that's based on improvisation, it'd be a shame to make it any easier by allowing to start again!

Yeah, I've found the trick to copy the player! For those interested, I've used the link provided when customizing the reader, copying first in gedit. Oh, I also removed a few ugly things in the provided HTML, a weird link that was rendering badly in the blog element.

Enjoy the music!

It was not working well on my machine, at the time, but today, I retried Deezer, the free Jukebox, and it works! The size of their collection is very impressive, so much that I immediately registered and started making a few playlists. I could find most of the tunes in my "Best-of Jazz" on the right (at the notable exception of Dat Dere, which they have in many versions, but apparently not this one. Maybe I'll need to look a bit further!).

It would seem that playlists would be exportable in a web player. As soon as I have found how to copy the provided link (the interface is in Flash, which apparently does not support copy paste under Linux, and no, I am not writing it by hand, it's long as the arm of the green giant), I stuff it in place of the best-of list, so this way, you'll be able to listen, and I hope very much to convert a few of you to the joys of Weather Report or Admad Jamal!

Voyez donc.

Thunderstorm on the web, the Google browser, named Chrome, has been released! A comics explains the technology and architecture choices, in addition to a testing phase that looks pretty neat.

Very curious to try the beast myself, I hurled myself in downloading it as soon at it got available. Small installer to download, which downloads a big installer, 5 minutes later, Chrome starts, pumps my bookmarks and my history from Firefox, and shows up. A soon as I understood that Chrome was right against me about my proxy settings, I could serenely navigate. Nevertheless, big testing phase or not, actually very few pages display without any issue through a proxy. Have a look.

First, the BBC, that can hardly be accused of being obscure. The result is awful, everything ends-up being in the middle, elements one after the other, the style and most images have run away.

Then, the Google Chrome page itself. Granted, I might be a bit mean, but not being able to display one's own page, that's quite bad! The Google header disappears, and the central picture. Let's bet this will quickly get fixed.

Finally, let's see the competition. Microsoft's page gets displayed quite well. The header has disappeared (looks like it's a speciality!), and there are a few elements missing on the right.

Pourtant, dans la tâche, le commentaire précise: "Google Update Task uninstalls itself when there is no Google software using it. It may take a few hours for Google Update to detect it is time to uninstall.".

Many bloggers complained, rightly, that Google was adding a scheduled task in Windows to launch its updater at startup and everytime we would get rid of the process, which is leaning slightly on the malware side. Knowing Google's voracity for personal information, this could make people think twice. Nevertheless, the task description says: "Google Update Task uninstalls itself when there is no Google software using it. It may take a few hours for Google Update to detect it is time to uninstall.". I tested it, and effectively, a bit later on, the task and the executable had disappeared. They won't get forgiveness, but that's not so bad.

Finally, I don't want to throw a stone at a product that is so new. Support the gazillions of web pages with more or less broken standards to comply with this or this browser is a gigantic task, even more when proxies are involved, and I reported the websites above with the bug reporter integrated in the browser. Fundamentals are good, and good competition is always welcome. I will not ditch Firefox, but I am eagerly awaiting a Linux version that would have been unloaded by the community!
