Pourquoi étudier la statistique

Un mathématicien, un ingénieur et un statisticien chassent du gros gibier dans les vastes plaines d'Afrique. Tout d'un coup, ils apperçoivent un énorme rhinocéros qui lève la tête, les sent, et tout d'un coup charge le trio.

L'ingénieur, à l'esprit pratique, est le premier à lever son fusil. Il tire, mais la balle égratigne l'oreille gauche de la bestiole.

Le mathématicien, ne voulant pas se laisser dépasser par un simple statisticien, lève son fusil, et tire. La balle érafle l'oreille droite du rhinocéros.

Le statisticien jette son fusil par terre, et crie triomphalement: "On l'a eut!"

Morale:
Bien entendu, le rhinocéros, rendu furieux par ses deux oreilles éraflées, piétina à mort les trois chasseurs. Ainsi, le statisticien sauva un membre d'une espèce menacée. Si vous voulez vous aussi sauver la planète, devenez statisticien! (Souvenez-vous, le jour du rhino est le 17 Septembre)




The major reason to study statistics

A mathematician, an engineer, and a statistician were hunting big game on the plains of Africa. They sighted a very large rhinoceros who lifted his head, caught the hunters' scent, and immediately charged the trio.

The engineer--ever the practical one--was the first to lift his rifle and shoot. The bullet grazed the left ear of the rhinoceros.

Never to be outdone by a mere statistician, the mathematician immediately raised his gun and fired. The bullet grazed the right ear of the rhinoceros.

The statistician threw his gun to the ground, raised his arms in the air, and shouted triumphantly, "Got him!"



Moral of the story:
Naturally, the rhinoceros, angered at having his ears nicked, trampled the trio to death. Hence, the statistician saved a valuable member of an endangered species. If you too want to save our planet, then become a statistician. (Remember, September 17 is kiss a rhinoceros day.)
