Watchmen - Le bouquin

La sortie du DVD est l'occasion de balancer tous les goodies associés, et notamment de la BD en elle-même. Je me suis donc précipité sur le pavé, et l'ai lu en un peu plus d'une semaine.

C'est l'occasion de se rendre compte que c'est une très belle BD, tout à fait à la hauteur de sa réputation. L'histoire demeure prenante même après avoir vu le film, même si bien sûr le suspens en est vachement réduit.

Chaque fin de chapitre contient quatre pages correspondant à des extraits de bouquins, de dossiers sur les personnages ou d'extraits de journaux, permettant de mieux comprendre l'intrigue.

Il est d'ailleurs intéressant de voir à quel point le film est resté proche de la BD, l'histoire colle au plus près, ne se débarrassant que des éléments trop compliqués à mettre dans le film (par exemple, la BD sur le bateau pirate), et changeant légèrement la fin (pourquoi pas, je devient plus conciliant avec les adaptations du moment qu'elles ont une âme). Les personnages, surtout, sont physiquement si proches des acteurs choisis que c'en est étonnant.

Si le film garde bien entendu un aspect BD, il est rigolo de constater que la BD en elle-même s'inspire beaucoup du cinéma, avec des séries d'images en zoom ou en travelling.

Je tague donc l'album "à relire", et vous encourage à le découvrir. J'aimerais bien également avoir l'avis de ceux qui ont lu avant d'aller au cinoche!


Watchmen - The book

The release of the DVD is the occasion to bring out some associated goodies, and the comic book itself. I jumped on the occasion, and read the thing in a bit more than a week.

I found this to be an extremely entertaining comic book, totally living by its reputation. The story remains gripping even after having seen the move, although obviously the suspense is reduced.

Each end of chapter contains four pages corresponding to book extracts, files on the characters or newspapers, that give an additional depth to the story.

It's actually very interesting to see how much the movie stays close to the comic, only getting rid of the elements which would be the most complicated to integrate (the story about the pirate ship, for example), and tweaking the end a bit (why not, I am becoming more accommodating with film adaptation, as long as they have a soul). The characters are physically astonishingly close from the actors.

If the move keeps a comic aspect, it's funny to see how the book inspired itself from cinema, through zooming or travelling image series.

I tag the album "to be reread", while encouraging you to discover it. I'd also like to have an opinion from the ones that have read it before going to the cinema!
