The Ludlum Title

Le titre, dans un bouquin, c'est vachement important. C'est après tout la première chose que l'éditeur, le critique, et le lecteur vont voir. Il vaut donc mieux un titre attractif, quelque chose qui attire le regard. Combien de bouquins probablement géniaux je n'ai jamais lu parce que le titre ne m'avait pas accroché!

J'imagine donc que nombre d'écrivains s'arrachent ce qui leur reste de cheveux à la recherche d'un titre qui soit hors du commun.

Robert Ludlum, l'écrivain bien connu de "frissonneurs" (pardon, de "thrillers"), avait semble-t-il trouvé la technique. Voici donc comment faire un titre Ludlum like:

Il va falloir déterminer trois mots, qui, dans l'ordre, donneront le titre.

- Le premier mot est facile, c'est "The". Un de fait!
- Le deuxième mot est soit un nom exotique, soit un nom faisant référence à la mythologie. Exemples: Prometheus, Icarius, Chancellor, Matarese, Janson...
- Le troisième mot est un nom évoquant soit les films d'espionnage de série B, soit le jargon de l'entreprise. Exemples: Deception, Agenda, Manuscript, Circle, Directive...

Panachez, et vous avez votre titre Ludlum!

The Ludlum Title
The title of a book is terribly important. It's after all the first thing that the editor, the critic, and the reader will see. It's better to have an attractive title that people would stop for. How many great books didn't I read because the title just seemed boring at the time!

I therefore think that many writers loose sleep over the title that they should give to their last book.

Robert Ludlum, the famous thriller writer, had apparently found the technique. Here is how to make a Ludlum-like title:

You will have to find three words that, in order, will form the title.

- The first word is easy, that's "The". One done!
- The second word is either an exotic name, either a name related to mythology. Examples: Prometheus, Icarius, Chancellor, Matarese, Janson...
- The third word is a word referencing either second-rate spy films, or the business buzz-words. Examples: Deception, Agenda, Manuscript, Circle, Directive...

Just mix it, and you have your Ludlum title!
