Live ou studio?

Pour moi, c'est choisi, c'est studio!

Ils sont nombreux à me dire qu'ils préfèrent les versions lives des chansons qu'ils écoutent. Face à une foule, l'artiste se lâche, et retrouve une spontanéité qui se perd dans les studios.

Et pourtant, voilà. Moi qui suis d'un naturel plutôt brouillon (mais on va s'arrêter là, peut-être que mon chef me lit), la perfection du son studio, la possibilité de rajouter des orchestrations plus complexes, d'éliminer toute fausse note, et pour les musiciens de recommencer jusqu'à ce que les quelques minutes de vibrations de l'air forment un petit chef-d'œuvre inoubliable.

La prise de son approximative, l'accompagnement musical minimaliste, la foule qui couvre le peu de son intéressant qui a survécu, bof...

Sauf pour le jazz, évidemment. Mais quand on improvise, on ne va quand même pas se donner la facilité de pouvoir recommencer!


Live or studio?

For me, the choice is done, it's studio!

Many tell me they prefer live versions of songs. Facing a crowd, the artist lets himself go, and retrieves a spontaneity that is lost in the studios.

Even though I am generally untidy (but we'll stop here, in case my boss reads me), the perfection of the studio sound, the possibility of adding more complex orchestrations, of eliminating any mistake, and for the musicians to start again until the air vibrations form a small unforgettable masterpiece.

The approximative sound taking, the minimalistic accompanying, the crowd covering the little interesting sound that has survived, ain't for me...

Except for Jazz, of course. But for an art that's based on improvisation, it'd be a shame to make it any easier by allowing to start again!
